Mitchell’s Care Homes LTD are a business which own and run many specialist care centres in the UK. Research finds that in the health sector, energy is one of the biggest overheads - almost a quarter of it’s energy consumption is heating.

Being a multi site business, this company had numerous meters across a range of homes that we were able to consolidate and align for more manageable use and also carried out energy comparisons across all sites to result in a large saving for the business.

Mitchell’s Care Homes LTD are a business which own and run many specialist care centres in the UK caring for people with disabilities and rehabilitating conditions.

Research finds that in the health sector, energy is one of the biggest overheads with an average hospital spending almost a quarter of it’s energy consumption on heating. With over 20 meters, Mitchell’s Care Homes were spending a considerable amount on keeping their patients warm and running costs were at a high.

Mitchell’s wanted to achieve reductions in their energy bills over a period of three years and needed help to manage their numerous gas and electric outputs so they could be more easily monitored and regulated.

As a multi-site business, we were able to consolidate all of their meters so that Mitchell’s usage could be combined across all their properties to achieve a much lower unit rate. Group buying in this way not only lowered costs, but also aligned contract end dates across all sites for a much more seamless energy management solution.

By transferring Mitchell’s gas and electric meters to British gas from EDF, we were able to save the business just over £5,000 over a 36 month period on a new tariff.

Sackville Orthodontic Clinic is a centre dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of its patients. The clinic’s services fall under the remit of NHS Choices clinics and is located in Hove, helping local people with a range of dentistry services.

We approached the health centre to assess their energy usage and to see if we could help lower their costs annually with a better tariff. After speaking to their Practice Manager, we were able to establish that the clinic could make some small changes in order to make some large savings.

Using our comparison engine we came back to the clinic with some better pricing options for new contracts on both their gas and electricity. Their management were pleased with the saving we had projected and decided to make the switch from EDF Energy and British Gas to Opus.

Upon instruction, we were able to make these switches easily and quickly for Sackville Clinic and handled all of the changeover for them. This simple switch created a saving which the centre can now reinvest in its patients and facilities.

We will be in touch again with our contact at the clinic when they next come to renew so we can once again find them the best prices for their business.
The Clinic Manager said, “Fantastic service. Fantastic savings. We moved over about 11 months ago and have seen some great savings on our gas and electric bills. Always kept up to date with what is going on. Very happy with the service level I have received from the company.”

The Woodlands Nursery is registered for 118 children and is a business that is passionate about the development and welfare of the children in its care. Located in Derby, nursery owner Suzanne Pratt and her team are rushed off their feet looking after toddlers and keeping them entertained! She has very little time to look for the best energy deals and was looking for an energy solution which would save her money and time.

Suzanne chose to stay with her British Gas so we compared tariffs with her existing supplier which also resulted in a considerable reduction of her annual rates.

Located in Derby, nursery owner Suzanne Pratt and her team are rushed off their feet looking after toddlers and keeping them entertained! She has very little time to look for the best energy deals and was looking for an energy solution which would save her money and time.

After sending us a bill, Mrs Pratt explained that she would prefer to stay with her current supplier, British Gas. With this in mind, we identified a number of tariffs which could make savings across the business’s three meters without having to switch to another energy supplier.

After going through these with Mrs Pratt, she was happy to proceed and we were able to move her over onto her new contract and make her a significant saving. All was done in just a few minutes and Suzanne was able to get back to what she does best! We will contact her again when her renewal is due so that we can advise her once again on the best tariffs available to her. This will ensure that she doesn’t once again fall into a higher rate rolling contract.

Rockliffe Court is a privately owned, family ran care home in Hull. The home provides specialist care for dementia and Alzheimer’s sufferers, as well as giving help to those with sensory impairment and those struggling in old age.

When an Exchange Utility representative contacted the care managers to discuss their energy management, we found that the business was paying higher rates than we would have expected based on the home’s usage.

After taking a more thorough look at Rockliffe Court’s electricity and gas bills, it became clear that there were much more competitive rates available to them through our panel of suppliers. A quick comparison confirmed that the tariff we could offer would generate a considerable saving for the care home, allowing them to invest more money into their care facilities.

When we contacted Jean again to go through the new rates, she was very pleased with our findings and agreed to new contracts for both gas and electricity, locking in prices for the next 3 years.

New unit rates from a different supplier brought Rockliffe Court’s electricity day and evening costs down significantly. Combined with revised gas rates, the new contracts produced a saving of over £45,000 across a 36 month period.

Rockliffe Court are now free to reinvest their savings back into their business and will have more budget available to them to pay for facilities and care for patients and staff. We will also contact them close to their renewal date to make sure they don’t roll onto higher prices again in the future.
